Cleanaholics · Before the renovation begins

When you can remediate, why renovate?

One renews what you can see. The other understands what sits underneath. The difference is decided in the few days when the walls are open, and almost nobody uses them.

The moment

For a few days, your walls are open.

To build a new kitchen, the old one comes out first. For a short window the substrate behind it is exposed and reachable, which is the only time in a home's life that it can be inspected and treated properly.

Then it is closed again, usually within the same week, over whatever was already there.

Treated once, at the beginning, before a single fitting arrives to hide what needs attention.
The gap

Three things a beautiful finish cannot do.

A finish is applied. A diagnosis is earned. The work below is measured before anything is covered.

01

It cannot correct the moisture

Mould is a moisture problem before it is a surface problem. Unless the source is found and corrected, a new finish sits on the same conditions that produced the old one.

02

It cannot clean a porous substrate

Our own site findings are blunt on this point: affected MDF cabinetry has to be removed and replaced, because a porous substrate cannot be cleaned of mould, only re-contaminated.

03

It introduces formaldehyde

New boards, laminates, adhesives and cabinetry off-gas volatile compounds, and levels are highest in the months immediately after the work is finished.

From our own inspection record

The room can read safe while the cabinet does not.

In one Klang Valley residence, ambient air readings were largely normal. Inside a closed cabinet in the same home, the enclosed micro-environment was acting as a moisture and volatile compound trap.

The wettest room

A kitchen is rebuilt. The conditions are not.

The kitchen carries the highest moisture load in the home: the sink, the dishwasher, the cooking itself. When it is rebuilt in the same porous boards, in a climate that sits between seventy and ninety percent humidity, the growth returns behind the new doors.

Dense, full-surface mould colonisation across the entire door panel and along the hinge edge. From a Cleanaholics site inspection

This is why we make Safe Door®, a health-grade anti-mould cabinet door system that replaces conventional MDF and plywood, combining an anti-fungal coating, a moisture barrier and zero-VOC materials. The kitchen is rebuilt once, in the right material, on a substrate that has been treated.

Safe Door®
The order that works

Remediate first. Then build it beautifully.

01

Diagnose

Thermal imaging, moisture metering and instrument readings while the substrate is still exposed, recorded room by room.

02

Remediate

Contained removal under HEPA filtration to IICRC S520, the international standard, with the moisture source corrected rather than covered.

03

Engineer

Humidity control, fresh air and filtration specified against your measured conditions, so the home holds its standard.

04

Build

Cabinetry and joinery in Safe Door® rather than porous board, installed onto a substrate that has been treated and verified dry.

05

Finish

Your designer completes the interior on a substrate that has been treated and verified. If you do not have one, we can arrange it.

For designers and contractors

Your design deserves a substrate that will hold it.

A specification is only as durable as what sits behind it. We work as the hygiene science stage before your work begins, so that what you install stays as good as the day you handed it over.

Before you begin

We inspect and treat while the substrate is open, and confirm surfaces are dry by instrument before anything is sealed or fitted.

Your work protected

No callback three months later for growth appearing behind new cabinetry, and a documented record of the condition you built onto.

The design stays yours

Most of our clients arrive with a designer they trust, and we work alongside them. We do not compete for the aesthetic. We supply the science, the materials and the verification that make it last.

Wellness Home

The aesthetics, and the air.

If a renovation is being planned, the most valuable hour is the one before it starts. Share the property with our team and we will tell you what is behind the walls before anyone closes them.

Scope and quotation are prepared privately, following inspection.
